As you are probably aware, the world of professional bodybuilding as we know it today is changing.
Whereas in the past it was the men’s heavyweights dominating the Olympia.
Nowadays people are showing more and more of an interest in the classic and more aesthetic physiques out there.
What’s more, in order to get recognized nowadays.
You don’t need to be an IFBB pro gracing the covers of Flex magazine.
With a multi-million-dollar supplement company sponsorship behind you.
Now, to build a fan base and get the recognition you crave and feel you deserve.
All that is required is a strong work ethic, an internet connection, and social media.
Whereas in the past it was only guys like Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Dorian Yates, and Arnold Schwarzenegger that were recognized.
Nowadays guys can go from a nobody to an online internet fitness sensation overnight.
Julian Smith is a prime example of this.
Which is why, today, we are going to look at the question of does Julian Smith takes steroids, or is he natural?
Below we’ll look at who Julian is.
How he gained so much popularity, and at whether or not we believe his amazing physique is natural.
Or down to the use of anabolic steroids.
Before we can start dissecting Julian’s physique in a bid to determine whether we think he’s on steroids, we first need to cover the legal side of things.
The content of this article is based purely on speculation on our part, and we certainly have no proof that Julian is on, or has ever used, anabolic steroids in the past.
Steroids are incredibly dangerous and we would never condone their use for performance or physique enhancing purposes.
At the same time, however, we certainly will not judge anybody that uses them either.
If people are to use them.
We’d rather they understood how to use them correctly.
Which brings us to Julian, and whether we believe he is on steroids or has ever used steroids in the past.

If you follow the incredibly diverse and competitive world of online fitness.
You could very well have heard of a guy going by the name of Julian Smith.
If you haven’t heard of the name Julian Smith, you may have heard him being referred to as ‘the quad guy’.
Needless to say, with a nickname like that
You can imagine that his quads are pretty awesome.
And that’s putting it mildly.
Julian Smith is an American bodybuilder that stands at 6 feet in height and weighs in at around 200 pounds.
On paper, these stats are decidedly average.
But if you see the guy in person.
You’ll realize that he is anything but.
He is a sponsored athlete and Insta-Trainer and fitness model.
And considering he doesn’t actually compete at a competitive level.
He has a physique that would rival any fitness model out there, and as for his legs.
They’re amongst the best you’re ever likely to see.
Julian hails from Oregon, USA, and has been interested in bodybuilding and health and fitness for as long as he can remember.
As a kid, he would frequently watch Arnold action movies such as Conan, The Terminator, Commando, etc, and he was blown away by the sheer size that Arnold had on him.
We also have to remember that Arnold was not competing back then.
So he wasn’t anywhere near as big as he was on stage.
Julian started to read bodybuilding magazines and remembers being impressed by another bodybuilder.
A guy named Tom Platz, who as you probably know.
It is renowned for having arguably the best legs in the history of the sport.
He frequently played sports but also showed a special interest in bodybuilding.
As a teen, he obtained a gym membership to Powerhouse Fitness and started to take his training more seriously.
He wanted to bulk up for football and for athletics, and so weight training was perfect.
As the months went by he started to learn more and more.
And out of all of the body parts available to train.
He actually enjoyed training his legs more than anything.
It is normally the other way around, as most guys hate training legs because training legs are very difficult.
And it’s very painful, plus the legs are often covered up a lot so there’s less chance to flex them and show them off.
Julian however, loved training legs and they responded very well to the training.
He admits that his diet sucked, to begin with.
Which slowed his progress, but once he started to clean up his diet and watch what he was eating.
He soon found that the gains came very easily for him.
As the years went by, gym members watched him go from the skinny and awkward teenager to a gym veteran with some of the most impressive legs in the gym.
And probably in all of Oregon.
He doesn’t train nowadays, but he entered a few shows when he was younger and in 2013 he placed 1st in his class at the NPC Washington Ironman.
And the NPC Natural Ohio in 2015.
Because of his amazing physique he now earns a living online, where people can become members of his site for a small monthly fee.
Where they can read his workouts, learn insider training and nutritional tips, and much more besides.
He has close to 1 million followers on Instagram.
He has been featured on bodybuilding.com, and he is a prominent figure on YouTube and Facebook.
As for training and improving his legs, Julian basically states that you simply need to use the correct form, choose the correct exercises, and use heavyweight.
We know that’s hardly ground-breaking training advice.
But if it works, it works.
Before we can look at the question of does Julian Smith take steroids or is he natural.
We’ll take a quick look at how he has been able to build a set of incredibly impressive legs.
He performs each exercise slowly and meticulously.
With a full range of motion and heavyweight.
He trains to failure and really likes to switch things up.
A few favorite exercises of his include things like barbell lunges, squats, sissy squats, sumo squats, leg curls, calf raises, and leg press, to name but a few.
Julian stated that his diet sucked when he was getting started with bodybuilding.
And once he cleaned it up, he really made some impressive improvements.
He now practices IIFYM, or If It Fits Your Macros.
Which basically allows for more flexibility with the diet.
As long as you carefully monitor the amounts you are consuming.
Known as flexible dieting, it is controversial as some believe it encourages poor dietary choices.
Whether controversial or not, it’s certainly worked for Julian.
But is his amazing physique due purely to a good diet and smart training?
Now that you know more about who Julian Smith is, it’s now time to take a look at whether or not we believe that Julian is in fact on steroids.
Or has ever taken steroids.
Or if he’s natural.
Remember, this is pure speculation and should not be taken as factual.
Here are some pieces of evidence for and against potential steroid use on Julian’s part:
Remember how we mentioned that in 2015 he placed first in his class at the 2015 NPC NATURAL Ohio show?
Well, as that was a natural show.
Then surely that proves he was free of steroids, right?
Well, at the time yes.
Athletes are required to hand over urine samples.
But we’re now in 2018 and Julian does certainly look slightly bigger and in better condition than he was when he competed.
Does this mean anything?
He could have used steroids before the show and after the show,
But at the same time, he may not have done.
Is this case, you can find out more about Bradley Martyn and Kali muscle.
Who were also competing in NPC!
The fact that he competed in a natural show.
However, does give credit to the fact that he perhaps is natty after all.
On paper, Julian Smith is average, or rather, his stats are.
He stands at 6 feet in height and weighs just 200 pounds.
While this certainly can’t be classed as small.
It’s certainly not classed as big either.
Remember, there are IFBB pro bodybuilders shorter in height than Julian.
Who weigh 100 pounds more than him, all of the solid muscle.
You don’t need to be a genius to figure out what those guys are on steroids.
But what about some of the smaller dudes like Julian.
Well, first off, Julian is far from small, but at the same time.
He certainly isn’t huge either.
Because of this, it’s difficult to determine whether his gains could be down to anabolic steroid use.
Of pure hard work and determination.
If you saw Julian with a pump while wearing a tank top in the gym.
You’d swear that he weighed at least twenty pounds more than he actually does.
This is because being ripped gives people the illusion of being bigger than they really are.
Julian isn’t just ripped.
He is shredded, despite the fact that he doesn’t compete anymore.
He always has a six-pack set of abs, he is vascular and has veins popping out everywhere.
And he also happens to have some of the craziest leg development currently in existence.
Typically he looks to be walking around at 5% body fat on average.
Which isn’t much more than an IFBB pro bodybuilder about to step on stage at the Olympia.
To get to that type of condition is very tough.
But to maintain it all year long is perhaps asking too much naturally.
It is possible with a very strict diet, plenty of cardio.
The right lifestyle, and the right training, but it is tough.
Julian however, seems to make it look easy.
It could be pure hard work and dedication.
Or it could be down to the use of powerful fat burning steroids such as Winstrol or Clenbuterol.
We can’t talk about ‘the quad guy’ without mentioning Julian’s legs.
They look amazing.
They are big, symmetrical, aesthetic, vascular, and absolutely chiseled.
He has more definition in his legs than some bodybuilders have in their upper bodies when they compete on stage.
Julian obviously has great genes when it comes to training legs.
But can you build legs that good naturally?
Well, we’re not certain, but we wouldn’t be shocked to learn that steroids played a part in Julian’s amazing legs.
With some people, all you have to do is look at them for a few seconds to determine whether or not they are on steroids.
But with Julian, this isn’t the case.
Some people are enormously big, they have flushed skin.
They sweat a lot, they have acne, they have boulder shoulders, bloated stomachs, gyno, and they look like they’re about to burst from high blood pressure at any minute.
Julian however, has no obvious signs of steroid use at all.
This is a tough one.
Based on the evidence above, there is no evidence to suggest that Julian Smith takes anabolic steroids at all, or that he ever has.
So, we’re going to say that he may be natty.
Although we wouldn’t be shocked to learn that he was running fat burning compounds.
Or less potent steroids at lower dosages either,
Based mainly on his freakish condition and awesome leg development.
