What Steroids Does Phil Heath Take?

For the unaware, Phil Heath is the current 7x Mr Olympia champion. If Phil continues to dominate, he’ll officially go down as the most successful bodybuilder of all time. …That’s if he beats Ronnie Coleman/Lee Haney’s record of winning 8 Sandows. There’s no doubt that those who compete in the Olympia are mass monsters, but Phil is in a league of his own. His muscle bellies are so incredibly full and round, it’s like you’re wearing 3D glasses when you look at him. Phil’s most dominant muscle groups are his delts/traps. When both of these muscles are exceptionally developed, they create this 3D/popping out effect.

Phil Heath’s stats (1):

  • Height: 5 ft 9
  • Competition weight: 240lbs (109kg)
  • Off season weight: 275lbs (125kg)
  • Competition body fat: 3% approx

Measurements (2):

  • Arms – 22 inches
  • Legs – 32 inches
  • Calves – 20 inches
  • Neck 18.5 inches
  • Waist – 29 inches

With Phil, you either love him or you hate him. He has over 3.5 million fans on his Facebook page, but he also has a lot of haters. Many people who dislike Phil have formed their opinion after watching the documentary film Generation Iron (a modern version of Pumping Iron). If you haven’t seen GI, order it off Amazon…it’s awesome! Almost as good as Pumping Iron dare I say. After Generation Iron was released, many people started to perceive Phil as arrogant/big headed. Consequently many bodybuilding fans chose to support Kai Greene instead.

Rise Of  The Bodybuilding Career

Back in 2002, aged just 23, Phil started taking his training seriously and he began competing as a bodybuilder. He won numerous amateur shows and started turning heads whenever he competed.

When he competed. The contrasts between Phil and the other competitors were astonishing. Needless to say, it didn’t take him long to earn his IFBB pro card. He turned pro in 2005, just three years after making his competitive debut on stage. And things didn’t slow down there. He won his debut show like a pro and won his very next show for good measure.

In 2007, Phil entered the Arnold Classic. Which is considered the second-biggest bodybuilding contest in the world, and he placed a very respectful 5th place, earning him the chance to compete at the biggest bodybuilding contest in the world – Mr. Olympia. Most bodybuilders would jump at the chance to compete at the Olympia. Even if it was obvious that they wouldn’t stand a chance of winning.

Not Phil however. Phil actually decided to skip the 2007 Olympia and give himself one full year to train, eat, and make the necessary improvements that he felt would help him when he did decide to compete against some of the greatest bodybuilders in the world. In 2008, he presented a much bigger, fuller, and more symmetrical physique. And placed second at the Arnold, behind Dexter Jackson, who in himself is one of the best of all time.

Phil debuted at the 2008 Mr. Olympia and amazingly he placed 3rd, behind Jay Cutler in second, and Dexter Jackson in 1st place.

Amazingly, Phil became the favorite to win the following year. But, unfortunately, he picked up an illness. Although it wouldn’t have mattered anyway, as 2009 was the year that Jay Cutler presented one of the best physiques to ever grace the Olympia stage. Phil placed 5th that year, and 2nd the following year. Again behind his long-time friend Jay Cutler. This would be Cutler’s final Olympia win.

A New Rivalry

When Phil was competing, he faced competition from the likes of Dennis Wolfe and Dexter Jackson. Despite this, the magazines focus on his rivalry with Jay Cutler. As they were desperate to recreate a rivalry similar to the one that Jay had himself had with Ronnie Coleman several years prior.

The problem was that Phil and Jay were close friends. And, therefore, they respected one another. And as you know, a rivalry’s pretty damn boring if the two rivals are actually good friends. In 2011, Phil won his first Mr. Olympia title and shortly after.

A new bodybuilder emerged on the scene and made his presence felt in a big way. This bodybuilder was none other than Kai Greene. And he would prove to be Phil’s biggest competitive rival to date. Kai Greene was one of the biggest bodybuilders in recent history.

So big, in fact, that he made Phil look, well, not small, but not huge either. Kai competed at weights between 250 and 280 on stage, and, other than his wide waist. He was considered to have the perfect package. Kai placed 4th at the Olympia on his debut alongside Shawn Rhoden. And quickly set his sights on Phil and his title.

As Phil thrived under pressure. He actually stepped up his game and began making noticeable improvements to his frame. Because he looked so great, again, people began accusing Phil of anabolic steroids to build his body.

Proof Phil Heath is on Steroids

Phil has pretty much admitted to taking steroids on video (when he didn’t think he was being filmed). A Youtuber known as ‘Prophet Muscle’ confronted Phil Heath and asked him why he takes steroids… Phil responded by saying “because…” but was interrupted by his bodyguard who told him not to speak any more on the subject. See the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQmgz49UuO0

Young Phil Heath

young phil heath Here’s what Phil looked like back in 2003 as a 23 year old natural bodybuilder... How do I know Phil was natty in this picture? Because he weighed 192lbs (3), meaning he’s gained roughly 50lbs of lean mass since then. Adding 50lbs of lean mass is standard when somebody hops on the juice train. A person taking steroids will experience most of their gains in the first few cycles, so if Phil HAD used steroids by this point, there’d be little room for more growth. …certainly not 50lbs worth. This picture of Phil as a natty proves that he’s a genetic freak. Hence why he’s nicknamed ‘the Gift’. So if you think you can look like Phil by simply taking steroids and training hard, think again. This guy was freaking HUGE even before he started juicing.

Steroids Phil Heath is Likely to Be Taking?

  • Trenbolone
  • HGH & Insulin
  • Anadrol
  • Anavar

Trenbolone

I think there’s a strong chance Phil’s used trenbolone. Tren will help you build muscle everywhere, but more so in muscles that contain a higher number of androgen receptors i.e. in the shoulders and traps. AKA the 2 muscles groups that really ‘pop’ on Phil. Tren also gives you that dry/shredded look, making it easier to achieve striations.

HGH & Insulin

It seems Phil’s also used HGH and insulin, as he possesses the ‘steroid gut’ that so many IFBB pros have these days (including Kali Muscle). This gut is caused by bodybuilders combining human growth hormone with insulin. Why do bodybuilders bother using insulin if it causes this pregnant-look? Insulin is highly anabolic and using it causes more nutrients to be shifted into the muscle cell. Similar to why guys use dextrose post-workout in their protein shakes; it creates a more anabolic environment. Although its effects are over-hyped in my opinion.

Anadrol

Anadrol is one of the most powerful bulking steroids on the planet. …and one of the harshest. On anadrol you’ll experience huge increases in strength and size. Why do I think Phil might’ve used this bulking steroid? If you’ve seen Phil in the off-season he looks bloated and almost fat…despite not being at a high body fat percentage. One of the most common side effects of taking A-drol is large amounts of water retention, resulting in a smooth/puffy/bloated appearance. This is exactly how Phil looks in the off-season.

Anavar

When it hits September and he’s battling it out against the best bodybuilders in the world, Phil comes in drier than Gandhi’s flip flop. This is largely down to his coach Hany Rambod, who takes full control of his competition prep, manipulating Phil’s water/sodium intake to flush as much extracellular water out as possible. This enables Phil to display maximum muscle definition and achieve thinner skin. However, Phil would be limiting himself if he didn’t take a compound to dry him out even more. There are 2 main cutting steroids which can do this:

  • Winstrol
  • Anavar

I don’t believe Phil would use winstrol, because winny will make your muscles appear as flat as a pancake. Whereas Phil’s muscles look extremely full 24/7. Instead, I believe Phil uses Anavar when cutting as this will dry him out like winny, but without compromising his muscle fullness.
